From her debut EP, ‘Up De Flats’, Gemma Dunleavy has shared her music video for the song ‘Setting Son’ which focuses on a mother and son’s relationship being torn apart by addiction. Directed by Rosie Barrett and starring Jessie Thompson and Adam O’Reilly, the music video incorporates interpretive dance in a vacant car park to provide striking and fitting visuals to the tragic subject matter.
Of the song, Gemma remarks, “This is my favourite and most raw song from my EP, it was made while messing on a guitar in between lessons one day. It was one of those moments where a song pours out without realising it. It wasn’t until months later when i revisited the recording that i realised i had written a feeling that lives inside me but one i find so hard to articulate. When Rosie Barrett said she wanted to make a video for it i was so happy knowing it would get a bit more life and hopefully resonate with more people the way it does with me. Honoured to have Jessie Thompson choreograph herself and Adam O’Reilly so beautifully, they interpreted it in the most perfect way and we shot it in a place that’s sentimental to them both.
