Following the release of his debut EP ‘To The Sandals’ on BandCamp last year, Galway songwriter Dove Ellis hit streamers on Friday for the first time with a reimagined version of his EP’s title track.
Upon the release of the EP he described the recording as being “little vignettes of sounds, happenings and ideas that have kept my head above water over the year.” noting that “Its calm before the storm i cannot wait for the coming months…”
It might have taken slightly longer than the songwriter hailing from the West of Ireland expected, but the storm did arrive this weekend with the release of the studio version of his debut single ‘To The Sandals’ arriving on digital platforms, amassing over 100,000 streams on Spotify alone since Friday.
This version of ‘To The Sandals’ maintains the ramshackle feel of the original but with added flourishes of instrumentation and superior sound quality, the results land somewhere between Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk era Jeff Buckley and Radiohead figuring out an acoustic number in their basement.
It’s delicate, yet assured debut which indicates Dove Ellis is a considerable talent.
The Manchester based artist describes the track as being a “Reflections on a failing shotgun marriage in Cancún” is set to hit the road this winter supporting Geese on their US tour.
