MCD’s yearly Platform V competition which has in previous years provided winners such as Miracle Bell , Kill City Defectors and Seven Days has concluded this year with Awake Young Soldiers and Funzo who with both play the 2FM / Hotpress Academy Stage at Oxegen 2010.
Platform V is an initiative to get top bands in Kildare to play the festival and showcase the local talent in the area. This is the 4th year it has been run and has been a massive success each year producing quality additions to the Oxegen festival and promoting the local talent. Once again this shows MCD and Kildare County Council commitment to promoting the local talent.
Awake Young Soldiers, formerly called Cabin Fever are only 1 year old having only formed in 2009 and play Indie-Folk-Rock. At least thats what its been described to us as. The have one EP and working in the studio on their first full release.
Funzo are a six-piece, genre-hopping musical outfit, fronted by songwriter, Liam McDermott. If i am thinking of the right band they won the Christmas FM Xmas Song writing competition in the competition for the year just gone and have gone on from strength to strength. It you like Hip-Hop Ska fused music then these could be right up your street.
