Fontaines D.C. have shared their second new recording of the week, the title-track from their upcoming sophomore album ‘A Hero’s Death’ which is set for release on July 31 via Partisan Records. You never have to look to far to find literary reference with Fontaines D.C. and the album’s title was Inspired by Brendan Behan’s play The Hostage.

The video for A Hero’s Death stars Aidan Gillen as a fawning and gormless talk-show host and was premiered on The Fader. The band had previously stated that the album was partly inspired by The Beach Boys, but there’s little evidence of that in the title-track beyond some backing vocals.

The turnaround between the release of ‘Dogrel’ and ‘A Hero’s Death’, around a year, is quite impressive – ‘Strike while the iron is hot’ as the old saying goes. A Hero’s Death sees the band working once again with Dan Carey on production duties. Let’s hope that just like banana bread, practice makes perfect.

Fontaines D.C. also released a live version of Big on the compilation Live at The Windmill which features Shame, black midi, Goat Girl and others.
