Festival Details

The award-winning Metropolis Festival returns for its third chapter, now on the October Bank Holiday Weekend. Set in the industrial array of warehouses and venues within the beautiful RDS Complex in the heart of Dublin city across Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October – this unique indoor event offers a wealth of music, art installations, performance and conversation over 6 stages, to once again create a unique and stunning playground for the senses.  Check out the video here

Over the course of the last two Metropolis Festivals we’ve had incredible installations, eye catching one off pieces of art, the world’s biggest mirror ball, Andy Warhol exhibitions, world renowned spoken word artists, a dazzling array of panels featuring pioneers from the world of music, literature and art – and much more. Metropolis Festival 2017 is set to up the ante once again, so without further ado, let’s spill the beans on our first wave of lineup announcements!

First up, yes, you read that right! The iconic TLC will play their first ever Irish show at this year’s Metropolis Festival. TLC were THE biggest girl band in the 90s, selling an incredible 65 million records and winning multiple awards including Grammys and VMAs.  The band announced they are releasing a brand new record this month – and recently performed their first ever UK show, absolutely bringing the house down. We cannot WAIT to catch seminal tunes like  Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg, Unpretty, Creep, No Scrubs and Waterfalls for the first time EVER in Ireland.

Next, we’re super-thrilled to announce the appearance of pioneering DJ, producer and legend of underground dance music, RICHIE HAWTIN, the master who has melted minds with his impeccable techno for a quarter century, and is making his massively anticipated first return to our shores since he played the SOLD OUT Forbidden Fruit in 2015. Richie is the most sought-after techno artist in the world right now. His stellar career has been characterized by a restless urge to push electronic music forward, and advance the genre by constantly breaking new ground, through his genius as a DJ and a record label head.

It gets even better….we’re bringing you the awesome LEFTFIELD performing Leftism Live!

Leftfield are one of electronic music’s all time greatest acts. In May of this year they released Leftism 22, a very special reissue of their seminal debut album Leftism, 22 years on from its original release. Following a critically acclaimed UK tour where Leftfield (now led solely by Neil Barnes) performed the record in full, we are so excited to bring them to the Metropolis stage. This 1 hour and 45 minute set promises to be one not to miss.

Ever expanding London collective JUNGLE will be bringing their funk and soul to the RDS for their ONLY Irish show of 2017. With their Mercury nominated debut album, massive hit single Busy Earnin’ and a serious live reputation, we can’t wait to see this gang do their thing. This will be their first Irish show since their appearance at the SOLD OUT Forbidden Fruit in 2016.

This will be the first Irish show in five years for Richard Fearless’ outfit DEATH IN VEGAS, who will bring their signature blend of electronic, dub, techno and guitar sounds to Metropolis.  This follows last year’s release of their sixth studio album Transmission to mass acclaim, with MOJO describing it as ‘easily Fearless’ finest hour’ in a five-star review.

We’ll also be bringing you a full live show from growing cult band, MOUNT KIMBIE,  who release their eagerly-awaited third album on Warp Records in September.  If the two preview tracks from that album, already released this year and featuring guests James Blake and Micachu respectively, are anything to go by we are in for a massive treat!

Dublin-raised Indiana born, UK based BONZAI will also be joining us.. Her pop flavoured R&B combines elements of jazz, hip-hop and even Irish folk music – all delivered with a punky rave energy. Now signed to Columbia Records, Bonzai has rapidly gained fans across the board, with Pitchfork giving a glowing review to the track ‘Faze’ and BBC Radio 1 awarding it ‘Hottest Record’ along with adding it to the playlist.

It’s been a breakthrough year for  DJ DEECE! Playing weekly in Dublin for over 7 years, he has made a huge name for himself with various club support slots and residencies, most recently his  Deece Series which has seen him welcome Jackmaster, Baba Stiltz, Jack J and Denis Sulta. On top of this, Deece recently joined Jackmaster as part of his Mastermix tour and Bicep on their Irish tour! With his own productions on the way, international dates in the works, and his Boiler Room debut at Belfast’s AVA festival, DJ DEECE is fast becoming a household name!

Our very own Irish 8-piece BOOKA BRASS BAND feature trumpets, trombones, saxophones, sousaphones and drums – and know how to get a party started. They’ve performed the length and breadth of the country and have been special guests to the likes of Hot 8 Brass Band and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.

We have plenty more to reveal over the next few months. Tickets go on-sale this Friday 30th June . Move quickly to grab Tier One tickets because once they’re gone, they’re gone! Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
