INDIE is back . . . . same time, same place . . .
One of Ireland’s longest-running and most successful festivals, INDIE, is coming back to where it all began; Mitchelstown, Co Cork, on the August Bank Holiday Weekend in 2022. Much-loved and renowned for its role in bringing some of the best new Irish artists to large audiences, INDIE returns to its spiritual home, nestled in the foothills of the Galtee Mountains and the stage is once again set for three days of magic next Summer.
MD of INDIE, Shane Dunne, says: “It’s been such a hard time for everyone in our industry, we’re really looking forward to some green shoots of hope and getting back to INDIE in Mitchelstown. It’s a great boost for the town, a great boost for so many businesses and we hope they all benefit from large numbers of attendees next summer back in town”
INDIE began life in 2006 around Mitchelstown’s venues and market square, and its move to a new site on the outskirts of town in 2010 put INDIE on the international festival map – attracting artists such as Manic Street Preachers, Public Enemy, Biffy Clyro, Lewis Capaldi, Bastille, Basement Jaxx, De La Soul, Tom Odell, Editors, The Dandy Warhols, to play alongside some of Ireland’s finest live acts including The Coronas, Hozier, Kodaline and Lyra. An origin story that started with a handful of music lovers in the County Cork town has developed into a constantly evolving festival with a huge and loyal fanbase that grows every year.
