Tieranniesaur launched onto the Irish music landscape with their quite brilliant, self titled debut album. So brilliant infact that a group of judges deemed it to be in the top 10 Irish releases in 2011 meriting a Meteor Choice Music Prize nomination.
We caught them live at Sea Sessions 2012 festival earlier in the year and they were quite fantastic live. Festival season is nearly over and with them down for an appearance at Electric Picnic 2012, we nabbed them for a few festival questions to help get you excited for Electric Picnic.
Here’s the thoughts on their favourite festival song, camping, food and what she would be doing if she could never be in a band.
What is your favorite song to play at a festival and why?
At the moment, in our set we have a piece of music to link up a couple of songs. It’s not a song in itself really, but it’s fun to play that and cut loose with each other. I’m also enjoying airing out new material. We have a song called DIYSCO which is fun to do.
If you could duet with any act at a festival, who would it be?
ANY act? This question is too big! And what do we mean by a duet? Like an old school duet, focusing on the singing? Well, let’s say Bob Dylan for the hell of it, if only because I’ve been re-watching No Direction Home. I’d like to have a snarl off with him and trade some put downs.
If you could have anything even outrageous, what is the strangest thing you would have on a rider?
The horse on the rider would be fun for a change.
Do you ever camp or do you posh it up?
Sometimes camp. Sometimes not. Sometimes secret option C : sleep in the van.
If you could pick 4 headliners for a festival who would they be?
If they’re all headliners, does that mean they’re all playing on four different stages at the same time? Sounds like a nightmare to me. If I’m going to choose four dream acts I want them playing at sensible intervals spaced throughout the day.
Have you ever been starstruck backstage at a festival or gig?
I was pretty starstruck when we met Nile Rodgers last week.
Most embarrassing festival moment?
The PA not working properly when we played at Pig Stock. We had to do our set in two halves.
How quickly can you pitch a tent?
Waaay more quickly than Ruan and Saileóg from the band. FACT!
Food wise do you have any must have festival foods?
I can’t think now, depends what’s available. I don’t like to limit my options when it comes to food.
If you could never be in a band, what job do you think you would be doing right now?
Astronaut
