Plec Picks 2018 act Vernon Jane release their latest single Paradise tomorrow on AMS Records, but you can listen to it exclusively on GoldenPlec right now.
Having previously explored the female libido on Fuck Me and the struggle between keeping yourself together, or letting yourself truly fall apart on Fragile, this time Vernon Jane tackle the similarities between religious mechanics and sexual pleasure. A light topic, just in time for the arrival of the Pope in Ireland. You'd expect nothing less from this jazz punk septet.
As the band explain: "Paradise explores the common ground between religious ideals, and the part of society that is frowned upon. The subject matter touches on the similarities between the two. The act of being on your knees can be done for prayer and absolution, or for pleasure. The act of communion, similar to the addiction of partying and substance abuse.
"The repeated phrase 'the bones of you and me' referring to the sacrificial nature of religion, in comparison to the sacrificial nature of making love. Paradise focuses on trying to find happiness now, rather then waiting for it, even if that means exploring what can be seen as the darker side of life."
Vernon Jane play SOMA at Whelan's with support from Drivelight on Friday August 24. Doors 11PM.
