On their Bandcamp page, Cork’s Shookrah proclaim themselves to be “an eight-piece spectacle”, hoping to “cajole your hearts and ears with our love of the groove which renders us whole.” And, with rapid-fire lyrical delivery, flashes of playfulness, and dashes of vintage class, the video for their track, Making Love To You, lets that groove seep forth.

Making Love To You opens with a brief snatch of snare drum and some dissonant jazz chords on the keyboard, before leaping into lead singer, Senita’s droll, drawling delivery of “Making love to you is what I want to do on the regular.”

There are snappy shifts throughout between primal lyrical stabs, and more rueful, contemplative examination of a seemingly tumultuous relationship.

The harmonies are fluid and heartfelt; the drumming is tightly-paced; the bass is measured and mellow – this is a gathering of musicians whose sincerity mingles nicely with a tongue-in-cheek sense of fun. The silent credits next to a fancy lamp bring the video to a close with a visual element of tasteful vintage class.
