Ireland seems to be blessed with singer-songwriters nowadays, so much so that there seems to be an archetype Irish singer-songwriter. James Vincent McMorrow, Gavin James & Conor O'Brien (Villagers) portray a solemn figure that gently soothes with their voice and a guitar. JAQ on the other hand adds her own twist to it, she is never afraid to show her lighter side... in fact that's what makes her so appealing. She's more Jackie & Wilson than Take Me To Church.

Chloe Giacometti AKA JAQ is a Dublin native, but she has spent the last few years gigging in London where a representative of Open Door Records noticed her. They liked what they heard and they decided to put some funding behind her to record a new album. The first taste that we've gotten of new material is JAQ's newest single, Oh My Gosh, a sizzling and saucy acoustic number that worms its way into your brain.

JAQ has been compared to the likes of Lisa Hanngian, but she has a real pop edge that makes her sound distinctive. With the release of her new single we thought it was as good a time as ever to speak to the woman herself.

Who has had the greatest influence on you as a songwriter?

"So many people. I think that the first albums I really fell in love with were Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon's actually, so they probably had a major influence on me. But I'm influenced by countless songwriters"

How did the name change come about?

"I decided to go for something short and easy to remember. Punchy you know."

How do you compare London to Dublin?

"They are really different. I've lived in London now for just over three years - it's a mad place. I love it. It's exciting and fast-paced. It can be tiring and a lot to take in at times but it's cool, especially if you're there for a purpose I think. It's a good place to meet the right people. I adore Dublin. It's home."

You have been compared to the likes of Lisa Hannigan do you think this is a fair comparison?

"Yes - I'm flattered by the comparison. She's deadly. I'm a big fan of hers. She is definitely someone that I'm inspired by."

How would you describe your new single to people?

"It's fun. It's a bit naughty but in a nice way and it's something a little different I think. Do you know the trumpet player in it, played with UB40 - Isn't that cool?"

With Oh My Gosh released, is a new album around the corner?

"Yes. There is. I can't wait for people to hear it - I'm not sure when that will be yet, but soon I hope."

Is there anything else you would like people to know about JAQ?

"My dad's French And my mums half French so there's a bit of a French buzz going on as well."

So maybe it's that certain "Je ne sais quoi" that makes JAQ's music so irresistible, or could it be that classic Irish charm that people can't resist. Either way JAQ is bound to make waves on this isle and those farther afield before you now it.
