Niamh : The eagerly anticipated (by some) second semi final hit our screens last night, and it was the usual combination of euro cheese and rip offs from last year’s entries.  The night started off with a bang as lithuania gave the viewers what they wanted- a group of men dancing around and flashing their pants to a catchy tune.  Although some of the acts had good solid songs which they performed admirably, the focus as ever is on who wore what, which country had the hottest girls and whether a wind machine was entirely necessary.
With that, i have created alternative awards to honour our european competitors.

Mini Awards

Hottest Girl(s) : Croatia
Most Entertaining :  Lithuania/Netherlands
Best Ensembles :  Bulgaria
Best use of props :  Sweden
Country you didn’t want to get through but surprisingly did : Ukraine

Ireland also got the opportunity to represent ourselves, which we did by throwing a previous winner (from 1993 for your euro geeks) Niamh Kavanagh into the limelight. although Niamh performed admirably, I can’t help but feel disappointed by the choice of song, which for me was lacking in both meaning and substance. regardless of this, we made it through to the final, so if you missed it- tune in on Saturday night, and watch as once again we fail to make the top 10.
this may sound a bit harsh, so i offer a compromise- thanks to the wonder of the internet, a remix has already been created, and it is 100% worth a listen- it just makes me wonder why this failed to become our offering to Europe.

Aidan : Im going to be bold and say that i really think Denmark have a great shout at winning, “a moment like this” had a lot of what the judges will want, but do we really want another scando nation taking home the title, they seem to be taking it in turns at the moment, Finland in 06 and Norway in 09. The favourite Azerbaijan with “Drip Drop” looks strong as well. Slovenia was just plain strange. Romania qualifying was bizarre for me. I’m tipping Denmark, that’s if our good old Niamh doesnt bag herself a second title. Here’s hoping!
