Belfast post punk outfit Enola Gay have shared their debut single Sofa Surfing which explores substance abuse, eviction and how this has left a lingering impact on the band. The group worked with Chris Ryan, who is fast becoming one of Ireland’s most sought after producers (Just Mustard, NewDad, Robocobra Quartet) to achieve the squalid sonic blend they were after.
Sofa Surfing’s lyric video provides a direct repudiation of the failings of the Northern Irish state to provide adequate services to its people. “if our government acted sooner we wouldn’t be in this mess, the ‘our’ implies they hardly represent us when they don’t know what’s best for us.”
“It’s surreal to be releasing the first song we ever wrote, so long after it was written. Especially after the last 14 months. The lyrics are reminiscent of a different time while the bassline sounds melancholic yet cautiously hopeful, a vibe which is as relevant as ever at the minute.”
Enola gay have announces a mini Irish tour in support of Sofa Surfing this winter. Tickets on sale Friday 21st May at 10am.
