Dundalk’s Shane Clarke aka Elephant is back with new single Envy featuring the rhythm section from Belfast’s Robocobra Quartet. Envy is a track which many people in the arts will relate to: it finds Clarke trying to figure out if he would ba happier doing something he isn’t passionate about for more financial gain or continue to follow his creative muse which is emotionally fulfilling, but less financially secure.
The song also touches on jealousy and discontentment and finds Clarke asking, Is the grass always greener on the other side?
“I hit a stage in my life where I had to decide what was important. It got me thinking about the ups and downs to each avenue of life. I could concentrate on my career, make a lot of money, but give up my free time… I could throw myself into my passion, but would I end up broke?! I couldn’t quite figure it out… so I just wrote a song about it instead!”
Envy is the first glimpse of Elephant’s third album which will arrive on Pizza Pizza Records later this year.
