As we ebb towards the busy summer of outdoor shows, festival music and with any luck, a decent lack of rain. Electric Picnic 2016 is starting to build its head of stream with the first set of lineup announcements in the public demesne.

Next up while they build the rest of the lineup is to search for innovative creators as they launch their Far-Fetched Caravan Challenge. In Trailer Park, Electric Picnic’s camp of hilarious caravans and mobile homes will lie some serious surgery and imagination as they get converted by the collectively clever and amazingly artistic to product tiny venues, cultural outposts, oddball theatres and more.

For the last two years Electric Picnic has given grants to the coolest ideas and it’s back for Electric Picnic 2016. They are lookign for caravan based ideas that will blow your mind. So call your engineer, architect friends and get thinking. EP will offer up to ten cash grants to help you make your own caravan projects come to life at Electric Picnic, ranging from €150 to €1,500. There will be consideration to one larger grant, if an exceptional idea is proposed.

The judges for this year will be led by Keith Payne whose enormous inflatable sculptures for the stage-sets of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd are renowned worldwide will be working with the Trailer Park creative team; Roz Jellett, Charles Preston, Hugo Jellett and Sorcha O’Reilly.

The grants are for materials or hired skills that you don’t have access to. They don’t need to be roadworthy but it helps with getting them there, they do need to be safe for people to go into and should be interactive. It should be designed inside and out and lighting is a factor too as the area is alive at night aswell as day.

Artistic Director of Trailer Park, Roz Jellett said “In Trailer Park we really do set out to make people laugh. It is a liberating experience which marries creativity, silliness and style. It also loves a good host, so if you have a gang of friends who adore making people around them have fun, simply think of how you might do that in the most unusual way, and either inside or in front of a room on wheels. Whether impresario or engineer, think about others you can reach out to for the skills you don’t have (offering them a ticket perhaps). Designs should celebrate the ethos of what Trailer Park is, an outrageous holiday enclosure which champions the creative imagination, and everything inventive, unconventional, and delightfully bonkers about the world!
