Audio-visual artist Echo Northstar has today released his debut single ‘Someone Else’, the first track to be released from his forthcoming EP things i wish i could say.

Representing the importance of dreaming without limits, the track details the journey of moving past relationships of one’s past, be it with yourself or others. “It’s about living through lockdown, being left to your own singular thoughts and reflecting on a past self and who they were and for what reasons” Northstar explains of the track, “The music and lyrics were composed using an automatic writing technique, allowing the notes and words to flow out from the subconscious”.

Sonically, the track is driven by a Northstar’s haunting vocal line, and a hazy, mirage-like guitar and drum accompaniment. The song was inspired by Northstar’s efforts to return to the simplicity of a three-piece band, yet throwing in new elements and taking traditional instrumentation from their original context and dropping them into entirely new and unique spaces.

I want listeners to allow the track to move them in whatever way comes naturally” Northstar adds of the track, “you don’t have to draw a conclusion from the experience there aren’t any rules.  This has made me freer as a person so I’d love if someone else could take the same from it”.

‘Someone Else’ began life as a concept during lockdown, however it wasn’t until recently that Northstar decided to take the time to sit down and record the song. “Songs will hang around in my head for some time, it could be three years or 3 days before I come to producing it” Northstar explains of the process, “I recently decided to spend a couple of days recording and producing ‘someone else’ ad the timing and feeling felt right. This lead to the rises and falls in the tonal balance of the track and the ethereal atmospheres”.

If I do a painting around the same period I write or produce a track the same feeling will be held in the visual piece” Northstar explains of the importance of his work as both a visual and auditory artist, “Both languages give the opportunity to look from another angle. I have a production company with my brother called ‘HOROSHOKINO’ this work ranges from short films and soundtracks to music videos and live visuals”.
