As concert life returns after two years of disrupted seasons, the ever-impressive Drogheda Classical Music is looking forward to a full and rewarding season of concerts with its lineup for 2022/23. All concerts take place in the Georgian splendour of St Peter’s Church of Ireland, Drogheda.

Chamber Choir Ireland

Chamber Choir Ireland

Chamber Choir Ireland opens the series with the rich romanticism of Tchaikovsky’s Liturgy of St John Chrysostom (30 Sept). French pianist Philippe Cassard, winner of the inaugural Dublin International Piano Competition in 1988, celebrates his 60th birthday in style with solo piano works by Mozart, Debussy and Schubert (21 Oct). The Liverpool String Quartet, including Irish violinist Róisín Walters, presents its own arrangement of Piazzolla Tangos, alongside music by Deirdre Gribbin and Alexander von Zemlinsky (11 Nov). For Christmas, Drogheda audiences can enjoy hearing Handel’s Messiah as performed by the Irish Baroque Orchestra, with Chamber Choir Ireland, conducted by IBO director Peter Whelan.

Tara Erraught

Successfully presented in January 2020, Drogheda Classical Music brings back international mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught to curate ‘Celebrating the Voice’—a weekend of masterclasses, lectures, workshops, and concerts, all dedicated to vocal health, with an exciting mix of speakers and artists (26-29 Jan). Another returning artist, pianist Leon McCauley—last seen in Drogheda as a soloist—performs alongside violinist Mia Cooper and cellist Brian O’Kane in piano trios by Antonin Dvorak and Clara Schumann (10 Feb). Another pianist, award-winning Daniel Lebhardt, makes his Irish debut with music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, and Ethel Smyth (24 March). The series concludes in the Spring with the Irish Chamber Orchestra directed from the piano by the wizardry of expert Mozartean Kristian Bezuidenhout (21 April).
