With 25 years of performance under their belt, The Vanbrugh Quartet have been a household name on the Irish classical music scene for quite a while now, and they’re only getting bigger. With a hugely varied repertoire, and a reputation for excellent interpretations and performances, they truly represent what the Irish are capable of in the world of classical music. Throughout their career, the quartet has represented Ireland in such international hives of music as Berlin (Konzerthaus), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Hungary (Liszt Academy), Poland (Lancut Festival), Spain (Galicia Festival), Flanders Festival, Menuhin Festival, Gstaad plus numerous visits to Scandinavia, during which they recorded the complete Beethoven quartets. The Vanbrugh Quartet are now internationally recognised for their tone, clarity of texture, and integrity of interpretation, they are now one of Europe’s top ensembles.

The guys joined us for a performance of Shostakovich’s ballet from ‘The Golden Age’ in the National Concert Hall for this year’s Coast to Coast – Tea and Toast, and what a performance it is. Bringing to life this work by one of the most prominent twentieth century composers, the whole crew were absorbed by the ease at which they performed such a beautiful, but technically demanding work. Filming in the beautiful surroundings of the Kevin Barry Room, the atmosphere was perfect, as the video captures. Certainly one of the highlights of the event!
