Christmas FM, which has become an institution in Ireland for Christmas the last four years had smashed right through it’s yearly record and raised €116,749 for charity partner, Focus Ireland.

In three years it had raised €200k so for it to raise €116k in just one year is an unbelievable achievement for the station. The vital funds raised for Focus Ireland will allow the homeless services and housing charity to provide:

This money is to be used to provide……

– Meals for 10 weeks in its coffee shop for people who are homeless
– Support young people for 10 weeks in our day service
– Provide advice and information to 800 people at risk of becoming homeless,
– Support 8 children for 6 months in our Waterford childcare centre
– Provide 6 young people with temporary accommodation in its 16-18 year old residential service
– Help 20 households across Dublin, Cork, Waterford and Limerick settle into homes.

This year it reached 60% of the population which helped ramp up the charity drive and even Goldenplec got involved, appearing on one of the shows with Liam Walshe on Saturday 10th December, we even wrote a post on our experience -> Christmas FM – Festive guerilla radio

Walter Hegarty, Director of Christmas FM said,

“We are absolutely gobsmacked by the amount raised and the generosity of our listeners, they are amazing. It proves that despite the difficulties Ireland is experiencing people still love some festive cheer and are happy to help out someone in need. The station focuses on Christmas in a non commercial way encouraging people to feel part of their community and enjoy the true spirit of the season. We owe our sponsors EBS and the Irish Daily Mail a big thank you for helping us to make this possible.”

Christmas FM has now closed its studio at the Alexander Hotel, Merrion Sq, Dublin and will return in December 2012. People can hear exactly when first on www.christmasfm.ie or www.facebook.com/christmasfm and of course GP will be right on top of it when it happens.
