The Prestigious Choice Music Prizes returns to honor it’s ‘Irish Album of the Year 2010’ with announcements today that the shortlist will be announced on Wednesday January 12th 2011 and then the event itself will be held in Vicar Street, Dublin on Thursday March 3rd 2011 and it will be broadcast live on Today FM.

Co-Founder Jim Carroll will be stepping down from proceedings this year and handing the reigns to Irish Times music journalist and critic Tony Claton-Lea and the project organiser will be David Reid.

This is the 6th year of the awards and is now a mainstay highlight of the Irish music calendar with the winning act recieving €10,000 courtesy of IMRO and a specially commissioned award.

There is a pretty comprehensive list of Irish albums released in 2010 on the Choice Music website listing 217 albums which is the single largest number of albums since Choices inception.

The recipients of the Choice Prize thus far are as follows:

2008: Jape – Ritual (Co-Op Records)
2009: Adrian Crowley – Season of the Sparks (Chemikal Underground)
