Australian songwriter Alex Lahey is bringing her Best Of Luck Club to The Grand Social this May.

It’s been a bust couple of years for Lahey her debut EP ‘B-Grade University caught’ the ear of Tegan and Sarah, so-much-so that they took her out on the road with them. Her debut ‘I Love You Like A Brother’ (2017), charted at 15 in her homeland and opened the doors to further international touring, an opportunity which she grabbed by the horns.

Her subsequent tour of the US inspired her forthcoming follow-up ‘The Best Of Luck Club’ (out May 17th on Dead Oceans), which is rooted in her experiences in Nashville.

“I just locked myself in a room 12 hours a day and wrote a song every single day I was there, and I think about half the record is made up of those songs,” says Lahey, proudly of this productive period that triggered the concept for ‘The Best Of Luck Club’.

“When I was writing all the stuff in Nashville I was really inspired by the dive bar scene there and, you know, the idea that at these dive bars there’s no pretentious energy. Whether you’ve had the best day of your life or the worst day of your life, you can just sit up at the bar and turn to the person next to you – who has no idea who you are – and have a chat. And the response that you generally get at the end of the conversation is, ‘Best of luck’. So ‘The Best Of Luck Club’ is that place.”

As well as announcing a European Tour today, Lahey has also shared Don’t Bo So Hard On Yourself, the lead single from ‘The Best of Luck Club’ featuring what Lahey describes as a “raging saxophone solo.”

Alex Lahey at The Grand Social 16th May 2019. Tickets €18.00 inclusive of booking fee – on sale Friday at 10AM.
