Ahead of their first-ever North American tour, Kilkenny dance duo 49th & Main have shared their latest single, Distractions. The track began life from a writing brief for a major international company but quickly became too special for the group to relinquish.
“So, we actually made this song by accident. We were given a brief to write music for an electronics company (can’t remember who tbh probably tamagotchi or maybe NASA) and we sat there in a bedroom and basically churned the majority of the track in about 2 hours. It came so easy for both of us, as the best songs of ours often do. Safe to say we didn’t get back to that company with this song because we loved it too much. There’s something really calming yet exciting about it. Real optimistic feel. You could probably play this out in a club but also put it over like a holiday recap tiktok, if you’d be so inclined.”
Distractions follows the success of a string of single releases via Counter Records (Ninja Tune) in 2024 that amassed over 40 million streams. Over the past year, 49th & Main have solidified their position as one of the most exciting names in the alt-electronic scene selling out major venues, including Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, The duo embark on their debut North American tour this week with 6 out of 7 dates already sold out including the legendary Roxy in LA.
