autumnShortlisted for the Best New Festival at the European Festival Awards, the Spirit of Folk Festival is back for 2013, but with a twist. What was a 3 day camping festival, will this year become a brand new music initiative, with two separate events.

Top Irish folk acts will battle it out in a semi-final on August 31st, taking place in Whelan’s. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges at a one-day ‘Feastival’ in Dunderry Park, Co Meath, on September 21st.

The main ‘Feastival’ in September will host its usual array of family friendly activities it gained its reputation for. As well as events such as Falconry, Living History, Shamanic drumming and Astronomy, a medieval feast will be included in the €50 ticket price.

On the night of September 21st, three of the top Irish folk artists will battle it out for the Spirit of Folk Award, which will include a €1000 cash bursary, recording time with Darklands Studios, and a creative writing week at Dunderry Park.

Spirit of Folk are calling any Folk or Trad artists to apply to hello@spiritoffolk.com with a short description of why they act should be included along with their top three tracks.
