Bobby Womack at Dakota on September 26th 2013-10 Soul Singer Bobby Womack died on Friday aged 70 following a period of ill health which saw the Across 110th Street singer battling cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Womack first shot to fame as the lead singer of The Valentinos in the ‘60s. Womack wrote songs for a wide range of musical artists including Janice Joplin while his music has been covered by The Rolling Stones and Sam Cooke. An accomplished guitarist Womack can be heard on albums from Aretha Franklin and ‘There’s A Riot Goin’ On’ by Sly And The Family Stone. More recently Bobby Womack appeared on Gorillaz third album ‘Plastic Beach’. His 28th and final studio album ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ produced by Damon Albarn and featuring Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg and Rod Stewart will be released later this year.
