The National Concert Hall Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual award presented by the National Concert Hall to musicians who have contributed significantly to the musical life of Ireland. The inaugural award was awarded in 2012, to Paddy Moloney and the Chieftains. The award itself, by Irish sculptor John Behan, is a cast bronze sculpture on a marble base.

Sir James is not just as a supreme interpreter of the classical flute repertoire but also an inspiration to generations of Irish musicians,” said Simon Taylor, Chief Executive of the National Concert Hall “Through his extensive touring, over 30 million albums sold and his frequent international television appearances, Sir James has endeared himself to millions worldwide. He is a tireless promoter of the arts and has been a standard bearer for Irish music and musicians all around the world for over four decades. The National Concert Hall is delighted to acknowledge and honour his success and also to mark the Hall’s ongoing association with his career.”
