Phantom FM 2010 FeatureSo as news continues to roll in about Phantom FM, it has emerged that TXFM will be the new name for Phantom where the station will continue to provide music of the indie/rock ilk (well they have to, that’s what the license is for) when it relaunches in March.

The station is set to be aligned closer with Today FM, Communicorps flagship station, and make use of marketing and sales synergies within the company. With all their show presenters pretty much having walked through the redundancy door it will be interesting to see what is next for the station.

We’re not sold on the new name either. An X FM exists in Ireland already and TXFM sounds more like a Texas based country radio station or a tweenies XFM, than Ireland’s premiere rock and indie station.

The story continues to unfold. Will TXFM be bigger than Phantom? Will the music catalog push closer and closer to Today FM’s to appeal to a bigger market? Should the BAI just wind up Phantom and tender out the license again clean for fairness?
