Following his show in the 3Arena opening for Take That, ’80s legend Rick Astley made a surprise appearance at The Song Cycle in Bourke’s of Wexford Street last night – that’s the small bar on the side of Whelan’s for anybody asking where’s Burke’s?

Astley treated the unsuspecting crowd to some of his best known hits including Never Gonna GIve You Up and an impromptu version of Take That’s Back For Good.

You can watch both performances below with the man himself clearly enjoying himself in the intimate surrounds of the Wexford Street venue.

The Song Cycle is a weekly night for Irish songwriters to road-test their latest material and regularly features well-known musicians. The event is ran by John Byrne, the man behind The Apollo Sessions in The Bleeding Horse. Byrne has a knack for sourcing celebrity guest and recently hosted Lewis Capaldi’s surprise show at The Apollo Sessions in The Bleeding Horse.
