One of Scotland’s finest artists is coming to Dublin this week. Kathryn Joseph’s story is one of tragedy, transition and the human spirit’s unrivalled ability to endure. At the age of 23, (then known as Kathryn Sawers) she seemed to have the world at her feet as record companies scrambled to sign her. However, she was overawed by the prospect and instead chose to do what was best for her mental health and turn her back on the professional music world that longed to suck her in.

Over the next 17 years she lived a simple life working and playing the occasional gig. During this period tragedy struck when her first born Joseph died. Following a long period of depression Kathryn rekindled her love-affair with music and changed her surname to Joseph as a tribute to her son. Aged 40 she released her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I’ve Spilled’ in 2015 which subsequently went on to win the Scottish Album of The Year beating the likes of Belle and Sebastian in the process.

Fuelled by the album’s success Joseph went on to form Out Lines with The Twilight Sad’s James Graham releasing one album ‘Conflats’ (2017) to date so far. Joseph went on to deliver her second album ‘From When I Wake The Want Is’ in 2018.

Kathryn Joseph plays The Workman’s Club, Dublin on Saturday 19th with support from Gaze In Ghost, featuring Keith Mannion of Slow Place Like Home. Tickets €15.62.
