It’s not uncommon for bands to change their name. Some do it for to get away from a previous sound,a change of image or it being simply offensive to a group of society (remember last’s year’s furore over Viet Cong) but we reckon Cavan band The Radioactive Grandma‘s reason for a name change is the maddest yet. The Radioactive Grandma are working hard on their second album but during this hive of activity their website domain expired. That shouldn’t be so much of a problem, sure that’s something that can happen to a political party or to a tech company. You’d think Irish indie bands would be a long way off that list, but no.

If you go to the website (www.theradioactivegrandma.com) you’ll not find links to their music or photos, but find something much more freaky. A grotty French porn website now inhabits The Radioactive Grandma domain. We haven’t checked it out as the very name for a band wasn’t great but the idea of a porn site of that ilk is enough to make you shudder.

The Cavan band play their last gig under The Radioactive Grandma banner on the 9th of March at The Workman’s Club in Dublin where they will be playing a full set of brand new tunes which will under their new name: ‘Ape Rising‘.
