The National Folk Orchestra of Ireland have announced a week of concerts around Ireland, performing the newly-composed suite Macalla 1916. Composed and conducted by the orchestra’s founder, Michael Rooney, the full show includes live narration and projections to accompany the musical telling of the story of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Having given the Macalla 1916 premiere on March 4th at the Barbican Centre in London, the 60-string ensemble of both traditional and classical musicians play in venues around the country between April 26th and March 3rd:

27 March – TLT Theatre, Drogheda
28 March – National Opera House, Wexford
29 March – City Hall, Cork
30 March – Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick
31 March – Garage Theatre, Monaghan
1 April – Garage Theatre, Monaghan
2 April – Knocknarea Arena, Sligo
3 April – Millenium Forum, Derry
