Mullingar four-piece The Academic have shared ‘My Very Best’ the final single to be lifted from their forthcoming second album ‘Sitting Pretty’ out February 14th via EMI – Pre-order here

“My Very Best is a song about coming up short. We wanted to write something that could encapsulate the heavy heartedness and cruelty of feeling like you can’t emotionally provide a relationship with what it needs to survive,” the band explains. “The song explores the inner turmoil and feelings of inadequacy this realisation can bring.”

‘Sitting Pretty’ was produced by Nick Hodgson (Mark Ronson, Dua Lipa) at London’s Snap Studios and sees the band embracing a power-pop sound with hints of glam and exploring the trials and tribulations of your 20s.

“It’s about the entrance into true adulthood and how that can alienate you from yourself, making you feel like you’re playing a supporting role in your own life,” the band explain. “In one moment feeling 100% certain about everything, only to become overwhelmed with feelings of aimlessness and lack of direction in the next.”

Following a successful festival season which included an appearance at Electric Picnic, The Academic will embark on a UK and European tour this February/March, but as yet, there are no Irish dates.
