Northern Irish Indie rock outfit smallmint have released a brand new live video of their latest single ‘Liv’. smallmint hail from various parts of Northern Ireland, a collective of musicians shaped by their years of service to the music scenes of Belfast, Glasgow and beyond. Fronted by Andrew Cameron-Braithwaite, they confidently wander the border between Indie Rock and Americana.

The band began life as a solo project in 2016, before transitioning to a group in 2018. “I recruited musician friends to back me up for live gigs” Cameron-Braithwaite recalled of the band’s formation, “then as time went on the process of writing and performing become more collaborative and began to feel more like a band effort than a solo endeavour“.

The band began releasing music in 2020 with their debut single ‘New Year’ recieving widespread acclaim. “It was quite nice just to be able to focus on launching the band and releasing music” Cameron-Braithwaite explained of releasing music in 2020, “not worrying about having to put a live set together was nice, but it was strange to not have the opportunity to be out gigging the material”.

Their latest single, ‘Liv’ was originally composed five years ago, and recording started for the track in 2017. “We’ve been working on material for a long time and it’s nice to finally be putting it out into the world” Cameron-Braithwaite adds, “Musically, we tried to emulate The War On Drugs and the Ryan Adams track ‘Kim’, which we were listening to a lot at the time“.

The band is set for a busy end to the year, with a number of singles in the pipeline for the coming months. “We’re doing a couple of special live performances too, both virtually and in real life” the band notes, before adding the inevitable disclaimer “if all goes to plan“.
