Making the most of their Easter Holiday break from school, We Cut Corners took to the stage to play to a packed Whelans on Saturday night. The Choice nominated duo belted out firm favourites intertwined with new material, joking that they’d be finished in twenty minutes if they didn’t. New songs ‘This is Them’ and ‘Wallflowers’ went down a treat with the audience, proving a real testament to their live performance and ability to engage with the crowd.

Highlights from their début album 'Today I Realised I could Go Home Backwards' included singles Toll Free and Pirates Life. Yet brought the crowd to a standstill with only the faint clinking of glasses to be heard from the bar. ‘Dumb Blonde’ didn’t sell itself short,  a lovely stripped back performance which was light on guitar allowing the bittersweet lyrics to shine and had the crowd smiling and giggling in all the right places.

We Cut Corners have perfected their two man show, flawlessly knocking out tight harmonies song after song. Rather than adopting distracting musical gadgets the pair have remained true to their roots and have opted for an artistic collaboration with LeTissier who provided the third presence on stage. "We are not technically minded" said Conall, grinning as he poked fun at John’s three pedals, and their clutter free stage, stating that they were "blown away" by LeTisser’s creations and rightly so. The atmospheric lights and graphics swell, soar and compliment the dramatic, honest and expressive set. Starting off in black and white, Say Yes To Everything marks the visual transition into intense colour swirling in the background.

The set was rounded off with a rendition of Leopard in which the intro was slowed down before stepping up to the usual mark for the chorus. A new offering, Loner opened the encore and the gradual build up of Go Easy left the crowd in high spirits spilling out onto Wexford street.  A truly enthralling gig, the pair can’t help but captivate and entertain, leaving one to wonder if they are half as fun in the classroom.
