A 100% Irish music radio station is launching this Sunday (March 31). Play Irish aims to bring to expose the best Irish music has to offer at first via a series of curated playlist and eventually via specialist shows created by some of Ireland’s best musicians DJs and music professionals.

The news service will be available globally online via the Radioplayer platform and mobile app

Play Irish is the brainchild of some of Ireland’s leading Irish Music Industry and radio professionals – Sinead Troy (IASCA & Yangaroo Music), Peter McPartlin (former CEO of Today FM & TXFM), Liam Thompson (Magic FM Virgin Radio UK, Red FM, Communicorp & iRadio) Angela Dorgan (First Music Contact & Music From Ireland) and Martin Byrne (Ex Other Voices).

Speaking of Play Irish Co-Founder Sinead Troy of IASCA says:

‘Every serious music city or territory has it’s own small but cool radio station that champions new and exciting music, whether it’s BBC6 Music, KEXP in Seattle, or FluxFm in Germany. Play Irish will be ours to champion Irish music at home and internationally’

Play Irish promises to be be “dedicated to showcasing the breadth and depth of new Irish music across a wide range of genres and will have real benefits for all of the stakeholders involved across music, radio and the broader arts and culture sector in Ireland.”

Play Irish will be available on www.playirish.ie and to over half a million people who have already downloaded the Irish Radioplayer app, no matter where they are in the world.
