The ever on point, Shrug Life return with a decidedly sharp take on the Irish 8th amendment with the pro-choice track Your Body. The trio have paired with Marie Carr on vocals for the track which doesn’t hold back with hard-hitting lyrics such as “your body is not your body, it’s the property of church and state,” and references to fake holidays which are likely to resonate deeply with both men and women at this time.

Of course, this Is not the first time Shrug Life’s Danny Carroll has gone for the juggler on political matters having previously released the barbed Making Progress. Political commentary has been all to sadly lacking in Irish music in recent times so it is great to see Shrug Life and others starting to tackle issues like bodily autonomy, homelessness and drug addiction in recent times.

Your Body is being released to coincide with this year’s March For Choice. GoldenPlec supports women’s right to choose and encourages anybody who feels likewise to join us on the march.

Shrug Life also have a few gigs next week with Ratboy and Dowsing
