GoldenPlec are delighted to bring you the premiere of instrumental artist Alex Smyth's debut EP 'The Utopian Dream' out December 12.

'The Utopian Dream' sees Smyth fuse an ambient aesthetic with an upbeat approach to composition. The EP’s title ’The Utopian Dream’ and concept is an ode to Smyth’s grandfather, specifically his debut novel of the same name.

"I wanted the structure and flow of the EP to give the same sense of feeling as when in a Utopian Dream, which translates to 'a dream where everything is 3 times as perfect as reality' with every song being different stages of the dream,” says Smyth.

The EP's tracks explore the themes of the mental and physical reactions you may encounter in a Utopian Dream such as of wonderment, discovery, control and elation.

'The Utopian Dream' was recorded in Camelot Studios, Dublin with Adam Kennedy (Drummer/Guitarist for Bry and Orla Gartland), with musician Podge Gleeson supplying additional drones and swirls on keys; to give a bigger sense of ambience to the songs.

In the last few years Smyth has shared stages with the likes of Val Normal, Bitch Falcon, Tribal Dance, Vernon Jane, supported The Coronas and Yvette Young and opened the main stages at Independence Festival.
