Yesterday we brought you ‘Hip Hip Hooray - Happy Birthday Workman’s’ - a celebratory piece to mark the fifth birthday of The Workman’s Club, Dublin; featuring Morrissey, the hairiest man alive, Pappa Smurf and a host of memories from the staff and bands who have made the Workman’s their home over the last five years.

Shortly after publishing, we received a letter from America, but not any old type of letter and certainly not penned by any old type of person. That letter was filled with love, good wishes and vibes, but that’s hardly surprising when you consider who penned it.

Marc Bolan didn’t put him in charge of vibes for nothing you know. If anybody alive knows what a good time is, it’s BP Fallon. Take it away BP.

"First time I was at The Workman's Club was to see The Mighty Stef, when Frank Murray - who was managing him - invited the dodgy duo of Geldof and Fallon to see him.

Stef and chums were playing an intimate gig upstairs and the atmosphere was great - no hassle, very chill and an upful response to this very talented man's music from the punters.

Last time I was there was to see my chums Trouble Pilgrims - the band born out of punk pathfinders The Radiators From Space - and they invited me up to sing the VU classic 'Waiting For The Man' with them and it was a gas.

But probably my fave time at Workmans is when I played there backed by The Hot Sprockets. I LOVE this band - they and The Strypes are my top bands in Ireland as well as being brilliant people too. The Sprockets rock LAMF and it was such a gas having a warble and a twitch at Workmans with these sonic chooglers, these honey skippin' rock'n'rollers playing my songs with me and giving it loads. The fact that our gig was being broadcast live on the web was jam on both sides of the bread.

Whenever I'm in Ireland, in Dublin, if time allows there are three clubs I like to pop into: upstairs at Sweeney's, The Grand Social - and Workmans. The atmosphere at these venues is generally very vibey and there are many cities around the world that would benefit from places like these - no frills, unpretentious and a wealth of interesting bands.

Happy Happy 5th Anniversary, The Workmans Club! And thank you."
