Celebrating the life, work, and legacy of the prettiest star, the second annual Dublin Bowie Festival takes over Dublin from 5-10 of January with a series of events celebrating every aspect of the cultural icon’s work.

An abundance of tribute gigs will be held across the city throughout the five days, but the festival will also celebrate Bowie’s love of fashion, art and his often underrated acting abilities.

There will also be a vigil to commemorate the thin white duke’s assertion.

The Mercantile will celebrate the recorded works of Bowie every night from 10pm, whilst Fumbally Exchange will host Pin Ups, an exhibition celebrating 12 of Bowie’s major songs, for the duration of the festival.

Q&A with Enda Walsh – The Sugar Club Thursday January 5, 7:30pm.

An intimate Q&A session with playwright Enda Walsh, who co-wrote Bowie’s Broadway play, Lazarus, preceded by a screening of The Man Who Fell to Earth, the feature film upon which Lazarus was based upon.

I heart Bowie – The Opium Rooms, Saturday January 7 – 7:30pm.

Some of Ireland’s top musicians will combine for a special performance of Bowie’s music. A repeat of a previous tribute show, which featured Glen Hansard, Bellx1, Sinead White and many more.

The Bowie Ball with special guests The Salty Dog All-stars. The Sugar Club Saturday January 7 – 10pm.

This is also likely to be a star-studded affair with many regulars from the Electric Picnic stage expected to be appearing on the night.

Queen Bitch Quiz – The Grand Social, Sunday January 8 – 4pm. FREE

This should sort the Nathan Adlers from the Laughing Gnomes with ease.

Bowie Sing Along Social – The Grand Social, Sunday January 8 – 6pm.

Fear is in your head, fill your heart and sing like there’s nobody watching… A great way to celebrate your love for Bowie and meet like minded people at the same time.

Rebel Rebel – Vicar St, Sunday January 8 – 7:30pm.

Professional Bowie tribute act Rebel Rebel perform a career spanning two-hour set of Bowie’s greatest Hits on what would’ve been his 70th birthday.

David Bowie: Critical Perspectives – Winding Stair Bookshop, Monday January 9 – 6pm. FREE

Professor Eoin Devereux launches the paperback edition of ‘David Bowie Critical Perspectives’. This promises to be an enlightening look at the creative practices of David Bowie’s career.

Gerry Leonard Live & Q+A – Whelan’s, Monday January 9 – 8pm. €15

Gerry Leonard played on three David Bowie albums (Heathen, Reality and The Next Day) and was musical director for the Reality Tour. Leonard will perform selected tracks from the Bowie canon and answer questions from the crowd in what promises to be an insightful evening.

Bowie Vigil – The Grand Social, Tuesday January 10 – 6pm. FREE

Remember the life of David Jones on the first anniversary of his passing.

Bowie Is… – The Lighthouse Cinema, Tuesday January 10 – 9pm. €15

A screening of Bowie Is… documentary film of the David Bowie is exhibition created by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
