// Who now?

We are Val Normal, a weird noisy two-piece from Dublin.

// Listen How?

Spotify & Bandcamp

// You recently had a line up change and are now a two piece. How has that affected the live show? (apart from the obvious of one less person being on stage!)

We were actually a four-piece for the best part of a year up until very recently. Its a bit of a change but the two of us have played together for years so we like to think we’re taking to it pretty well…the technology (mostly effects pedals) these days helps too.

//You guys have played a LOT of gigs. Any standouts from 2015 so far? What do you have planned for 2016?

Firstly we launched our album in January in the Button Factory, the biggest headline show we’ve done to date, so that was nice. Managing to snag a support slot with Russian Circles was amazing, we’ve been listening to them for years. Next year will hopefully involve more of the same, we need to get our heads down first to figure out this two-piece thing but hopefully have something to show for it in the spring. Definitely more tours.

// Any pre-gig rituals that you guys indulge in? Weird chanting/lucky pants/etc?

Nothing really before shows, we always have meanies after a show for some reason though. We can’t go home without buying a bag of meanies.

// How do you think the process of writing and recording the third album will differ from the previous two with your new line up?

There’s going to be a lot more room to fill, but its going really well. Having written a lot together in the past, we’re very much on the same page. We’re writing now more than ever so it’ll be interesting to hear what we end up making.

// The last text message you sent is your next album title. What is it?

“All ye need is that spray”

// Send us a photo and explain…

mess

When we’re touring we like to get photos of each other at our worst, here are two pretty bad ones from our last tour with Alpha Male Tea Party.

// You can only hear one song for the rest of your life – what is it?

It’d have to be 2 right? Assuming the 2 of us are stranded on an island together and only get to bring a song each? Rosanna by Toto, and Revolution 9 by The Beatles so we can slowly drive each other insane.

// The one song that you always bust out at a house party?

Sum 41 – Fat Lip, for some weird reason no one can resist it.

Val Normal play our ‘GoldenPlec & Claire Beck Presents…’ night at The Workmans on 29th October.
