This week’s Plec Picks is a bit different as we’ve included some of the stuff that our readers are listening to too.

Incase you’re a Plec Pick virgin and are a little confused about what The Plec Picks are, the GP team lay down what their most listened to songs of the week are and we make a playlist of them for all to hear. It’s a chance to cast your ears on something different and maybe discover some tastey new music. That’s The Plec Picks in a nut shell.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening). The selection is quite diverse so we won’t judge you too harshly if you feel the urge to skip something.

If you come across something you like, click the video and explore what more the artist has to offer.

Enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition!

Playlist Me!

What’s in there?

The Beatles // Love Me Do (Chosen by Luis Faustino)

A song that started a revolution in pop rock. It’s 50years since it came out, and still rocks!

Slow Skies // Across the sea (Chosen by our reader Emmett Mullaney)

Slow Skies: Wrap me in your ethereal loveliness :)

Lianne La Havas // Forget (Chosen by Aisling O’Brien)

I have this track on repeat, having missed this talented lady at Electric Picnic I’m hoping I don’t make the same mistake ahead of her Olympia gig next week.

Dem Fools // Segue (Chosen by our reader Fergus J Gannon)

Biffy Clyro // Justboy (Chosen by Alice Goodwin)

Simply because this is, in my humble opinion, one of the best songs by one of the best bands in the world. I could listen to this album on repeat for the rest of my life. My love for these scotsmen will never die.

Two Door Cinema Club // Wake Up (Chosen by Liam Doyle)

This song is a bit deceptive. On first hearing the verse I didn’t think much of it, but once that chorus kicked in I was sold! Also an amazingly epic outro!

Rival Sons // Keep on Swinging (Chosen by our reader John Feeney)

Because it rocks, that’s why!

Haddaway // What is Love? (Chosen by Liam Doyle)

I don’t think an explanation is really necessary but if you need a reason to listen to this song just know that it is all kinds of awesome!

Le Galaxie // The Nightcaller (Chosen by Debbie Hickey)

Le Galaxie are one of the most energetic bands around. They sure know how to get the crowd doing! Their Hard Working Class Heroes gig at Meeting House Square on Friday, was EPIC! This collaboration with Laura Smyth is fantastic.

Sive // Hide and Seek for Pieta House (Chosen by our reader Coop Cooper)

Beautiful heart warming song always puts a smile on my face

Alt-J // Breezeblocks (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

Listened to this album way more than anything else this week. I saw them a few months back in an empty Academy 2 and now they’re finding themselves Mercury Prize nominated and playing in the Olympia next year. Pretty good year for ’em!

John Murphy // In The House In A Heartbeat (Chosen by Kevin Donnellan)

If you don’t know it from 28 Days Later you will know a variant of it from Kick Ass. Try listening to it while steadily clicking through your facebook pictures. No matter how mundane the images it will lend your life a sense of doomed grandeur (this is how I spend my days…)

Croupier // Creo Beast (Chosen by Greg Synnott)

Gearing up for this weeks Hard Working Class Heroes, Croupier are my main act to see, Creo Beast is the first single from their debut album and it’s a heavy hitter of harmonies, Redneck Manifesto style guitar and lads having a laugh. I’ve said before Croupier are ones to watch, and I stand by that.

Chromeo // Don’t Turn The Lights On (Aeroplane Remix) (Chosen by Claire Beck)

A sublime end of night, hands in the air anthem from Chromeo, made even better by extra piano riff goodness courtesy of Aeroplane.

The Mars Volta // Televators (Chosen by Sean Noone)

Seeing Omar Rodriguez Lopez on Tuesday (as part of Bosnian Rainbows) reminded me how awesome a musician he is. I’d have selected Bosnian Rainbow but, as yet, they have not recorded anything. This, though, it the song that introduced me to this music genius

Bootsy Collins // I’d Rather Be With You (Chosen by Sean Conroy)

I still remember the day I first heard this track. Sitting in my Bass guitar teacher’s room, flaked out in a raggy-old beanbag watching him sob openly in pure musical ecstasy. Despite this frankly petrifying introduction, Bootsy has been a staple part of my Funk diet ever since. I’d rather be With You is Bootsy at his sexy best. Put your silk robes on, crack open a bottle of Moet, sit back and relax, baby.

Last Dinosaurs // Weekend (Chosen by our reader Ross Maguire)

This band need more recognition in Ireland so they come and play here!!

Foxy Shazam // Holy Touch (Chosen by our reader Sarah Townsend)

This band does not get enough credit! They melt faces.

Oleander // I Walk Alone (Chosen by Aidan Cuffe)

Another American band that never managed to really effectively cross the Atlantic. I first caught them on American Pie soundtracks and found their back catalog to be enjoyable.

Sacred Animals // Chosen Seed (Chosen by Stephen Byrne)

Sacred Animals will be closing out this years Hard Working Class Heroes at The Workman’s Club on Saturday with a DJ set. With this in mind I’ve been listening to some of the wonderful remixes of their work they’ve had commissioned. Keep Shelly In Athens remix of Chosen Seed is the pick of the bunch. It’s a magical, uplifting deviation from the original song with a swaggering synth solo. And it’s often the last song I listen to before leaving the house for an electro gig.

Common Wolf // Did I Just Imagine (Chosen by Heather Byrne)
