Hello and welcome as always to this week’s Plec Picks!

If you’ve never experienced The Plec Picks (listen to older playlists here) or are a little confused about what The Plec Picks are, the GP team jot down what their most listened to songs of the week are and we make a lovely playlist of all the songs for everyone to enjoy. It’s interesting to hear what everyone’s listening to and it’s a chance to hear something different. And you might even discover your new favourite band! As there’s a lot of different tastes in the mix here, every song isn’t going to be to everyone’s liking so feel free to skip to the next song if there’s something that doesn’t float your boat.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening).

If you come across something you like, click the social media icons beside the artist and throw them a like/follow and explore what more the artist has to offer.

As always, we hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition!

What’s in there?

Everything Everything // Kemosabe (Chosen by Claire Kane)

I can’t wait for this band’s album which is to be released in January. This song didn’t grab my attention as much as ‘cough cough’ but it has grown on me and I can’t switch off this week.

Harvey Danger // Flagpole Sitter (Chosen by Sean Noone)

Every time I hear this as the theme tune to Peep Show. It reminds me of how good a song this is. I’ve spent a lot of time watching Peep Show this week.

Tegan and Sara // My Number (Chosen by Debbie Hickey)

In preparation for their new album coming out in January I decided to refamiliarise myself with all their old stuff and oh how wonderful it is! also really love the lyrics of this one.

Paloma faith // Picking Up The Pieces (Chosen by Aisling O’Brien)

I think Paloma Faith is massively under appreciated. Her cover of Never Tear Us Apart on the John Lewis ad brought her back under my radar. This is one of those feel good tracks, even though the story is twinged with sadness. She’s an incredible vocalist, I can listen to this over and over again.

The Dead Milkmen // Stuart (Chosen by Justin McDaid)

Who needs a reason to listen the The Dead Milkmen? ‘Beelzebubba’ is a classic. So is Stuart. He’s not like the other people, here, in the trailer park.

Blind Melon // Change (Chosen by Charlie Livingstone)

SebastiAn // Love In Motion (Chosen by Claire Beck)

Filthy bassline, Prince-inspired vocal, perfect for dancing yourself clean on a dirty dancefloor.

Ride // Leave Them All Behind (Chosen by Stephen Byrne)

Really showing my age this week! Ride were one of my favourite bands when I was twelve along with the likes of Mega City Four and The Verve. Just before Brit Pop exploded these guys were the great white hope for guitar music in a genre known as Shoegaze. Lead guitarist Andy Bell would eventually find fame playing bass in Oasis (what a waste) Leave Them All Behind reminds me of when music was brand new for me.

Elbow // Open Arms (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

I defy to listen to this and not feel uplifted. Seriously. Try. You’ll fail.

EVERYONE SIIIIIING!

Wild Nothing // Summer Holiday (Chosen by Jonathan Klein)

Wild Nothing played in Dublin last week, and were really great. This song is an absolute gem, with a truly wonderful chorus. Can’t get enough of this song.

John Smith // Winter (Chosen by Mark Earley)

The first time I heard of this musician was when he played support for Richard Hawley last Monday in Vicar Street. His voice, guitars skills and anecdotes struck me. Met him afterwards, a charming gent.

Deap Vally // End of the World (Chosen by Bernard O’Rourke)

I can’t get this song out of my head. Deap Vally are like an angrier, all girl version of the Black Keys or the White stripes, and they flipping rock!

Tieranniesaur // Here Be Monsters (Chosen by Sean Conroy)

Reliving my gigs of 2012, Tieranniesaur at Electric Picnic came out as the indisputable high point. Here Be Monsters is a fantastic tune and one you should enjoy one more time!

DJ KRIDLOKK // GNXTA (Chosen by Emmett Mullaney)

Big Boi // In The A (Chosen by Kevin Donnellan)

While Andree3000 is busy selling razors Big Boi has been working on his second solo album. And this track featuring Ludacris and T.I suggests it could be quite brilliant.
