Review: Roy Shields – The Teenage StormTweet
The Teenage Dream is the 5 track debut EP from Dublin musician Roy Shiels. The EP opens with ‘Vessel’ a guitar driven rock track. A good introduction into the EP by the multi-instrumentalist and well produced.
Shiels dispels the fact that a solo act can’t have a full band feel with his contemporary rock sound. Lyrically, Shiels seems looks at the trials and tribulations of adolescence. He also seems to know what he wants to sound like, or someone so early in their career this is a huge plus.
State of Mind has a darker grunge guitar sound and is a full on rock song, while The Girl is a slight change in direction. It’s a slower classic rock vibed track with a phat bass sound. The EP ends with It’s Love, Shiels’ catchiest effort and at 2.45 perfect to get some radioplay.
It’s a good solid debut with a lot of promise for future releases.
