Band of the Week: God Is An Astronaut

Anybody who knows me are probably sick of me blabbing on about this band. God Is An Astronaut are a 3 piece band from Glen of the Downs who are currently taking Europe by storm. Just one look at their myspace will tell you how busy this band with an incredible 38 gigs around Europe so far. Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy and Poland are just some of the countries on the tour.

If you haven’t heard them before, they are quite difficult to describe. ‘God’ fall into the ‘Post-Rock’ genre, but there is something other-worldly about this band. Their name really suits them because listening to them doesn’t feel like listening to any other band.

This is especially the case after seeing them live. When you go to see this band, God Is An Astronaut present you with an audio-visual experience. Every song is complimented with a short video which seems to go in time to the music. Images include bombs hurtling towards earth and a monkey being sent into space on a rocket. After seeing them live, the songs take on a new meaning listening to them again. The images seem to remain in your memory and are released when listening to each song.

As a part of their epic tour, God are playing Oxegen for the 2nd year running. They are playing on the Friday and are sure to draw as big a crowd as last year if not bigger so check them out.
