Band Of The Week: Chewing On Tinfoil

Chewing On Tinfoil

Chewing on Tinfoil are a 5 piece Ska/Punk band from Tallaght/Raheny. They formed in April 2002 (though it was 2003 before they found a drummer that worked right for the band)  and are influenced heavily by bands like Less Than Jake, Rancid, Operation Ivy, They Might be Giant, Choking Victim and many more ska punk bands.

They have played all over Dublin including All Ages Blast gigs and have supported “Bomb the Music Industry” aswell.

All seems to be quiet at the moment for Chewing on Tinfoil. After having a hectic late “08″ early “09″ maybe they’re just taking a break. The last time I saw them live there was talk of an imminent EP.

With 3 Demos on their myspace things look promising for this 5 piece who are 80% Tallaghtfornia, 20% Raheny (you can do the Maths yourself).  All 3 tracks leave you in no doubt what the band are all about. Heavy punk with some quality Ska breakdowns.

Along the Way’ is the perfect example of this. The thing I personally find so refreshing about this band is the vocals. No effort is made to hide the Dublin accent in any of their songs.

Unfortunately, their are no upcoming shows listed on their myspace, but definitely give the 3 demos a listen. There is also a song off their 6-track acoustic EP  titled ‘“MysterEP” that you can download for free from mediafire (link below.) This EP is quite different to the rest of their work but is also worth a listen to.

Here’s hoping that ‘Chewy’ spring back to life soon.
