When a band”s music is described as ‘afropop-influenced guitars with hyperactive drumming and hooky three-part harmonies’, it’s going to raise a lot of interest. When aforementioned band have already sold out Whelan’s on one occasion this year and are back to the capital a few months later, well that makes them an unflinchingly obvious contender for this week’s Gig of the Week, and that’s exactly what Local Native‘s Thursday gig in The Olympia Theatre is. On Wednesday Danish folk singer Agnes Obel will be gracing the stage at Vicar Street. She’s been making lots of waves in most notably in Denmark, Norway, and Germany. We’ve a mixed bag on Friday night. American folkster Lissie in The Academy. Tickets are still available and are €18. Having sold out the same venue earlier this year Bastille are back in The Olympia Theatre for another sold out affair. Following his Forbidden Fruit appearance Ghostpoet plays The Button Factory. If you’re looking to fill the entire weekend. Get yourself down to Cork for the Guinness Jazz Festival.
