Gig of the Week: The Commitments at The O2 Glen Hansard Liam O Maolai and The Commitments at Whelans March 7th 2011 16 150x150This one was a simple choice really and it falls under the same category of the Simply Red recommendation we made last year because you might not get another chance to see them.

Before this gig was announced it was largely thought seeing this again live was something of myth and when it got announced I had to double check I was reading it right as even I didn’t believe after all these years they would get back together and do a special live show. Add to that the feedback we got from their surprise appearance at Whelans to join Glen Hansard and Liam O Maonlai it really does add up what could be an amazing evening of entertainment.

That said there are plenty of gigs on this week that could also appeal, 2 Many DJ’s are in The Academy on Wednesday, Mumford and Sons are in Galway (tue), Limerick (wed) and Dublin’s Olympia (Fri), Gogol Bordello are in Belfast on Wednesday, Royseven play The Academy 2 on Wednesday too.

Enrique Iglesias is in The O2 on Thursday, Ryan Sheridan is in The Stables and Two Door Cinema Club are in The Olympia all on the same night.

The Saturday see’s the Irish Blog Awards (we’ll be keeping a keen eye on who wins Best Music blog despite not making the final 5), Go Panda Go are in The Workmans Club that night too.

The Wombats are in The Academy on Sunday and Monday has Patrick Wolf in The Sugar Club. Plenty of great gigs, check below for the full listings.
