As OXEGEN Europe’s Favourite Rock & Roll Weekend gets underway tents, wellies, sunscreen and the all important toilet paper are packed into bags all over the country. But with 70,000 fans camping we all need to work together to ensure that everyone has a safe and seriously good time!

We would like to highlight the following key safety initiatives that have been put in place for the 80,000 music fans who are set for an amazing weekend at OXEGEN 2009!

OXEGEN will again take place over 3 days – with the campsite opening from:

12 noon Thursday 9th July 2009 and closing on Monday 13th July at 4pm. (subject to licence)

Car parks will be open from 10am on Thursday and close at 6pm on Monday. Between these times the campsite and car parks will be open 24 hours.

The Arena will be open from 5pm on Friday and 1.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Please pace yourself across the weekend and on Monday please take your time and care when leaving site – remember the campsite/carpark is open until 6pm.
1. Age Limit – OXEGEN is strictly 17s and over only – ID is required and will be checked rigorously before entry. Please note that under 17s must be accompanied by a guardian or relative over the age of 25 who will sign for and accept responsibility for said person. Under 17s who do not comply with this will not be admitted and will not get a refund. Everyone will be expected to provide proof of age; a Passport, Drivers Licence or Garda I.D is accepted. Garda I.D is necessary for over 18s to purchase alcohol. Maximum of two pints purchased at any one time.

2. Children - There are no facilities on site for children under five. OXEGEN is not a suitable environment for children under 5 and we advise against bringing young children. There is a specific campsite for families with children under 12 and a special pass is required in advance to gain access to this area.

3. Special Needs facilities and car parking is available at OXEGEN, full details of which can be found here or by calling the hotline on 0818 715658 or +3531-2841747 and asking for Customer Care.

4. We recommend patrons use Public Transport leaving the car at home and availing of one of the many public transport options available Dublin Bus, Bus Eireann and private bus companies have hundreds of buses available to festival goers. OXEGEN 09 will also have two FREE Park and Ride facilities with FREE direct shuttle services to the concert site – Park and Ride North at Goffs, Junction 8 off the N7 and Park and Ride South – Junction 10 off the M7. Parents please note there are NO private car or Taxi drop off points allowed at the concert site, these are located at the two Park and Ride – a FREE shuttle bus will take you right into the heart of the festival instead.

If you must drive please Car Pool filling your car with friends. Free parking is available on site for vehicles carrying 4 persons or more, otherwise a charge of 30 euro per car applies. Private cars travelling to the festival should expect long delays (minimum 1 hour) when travelling to and departing the site as public transport receives priority.

Anyone parking illegally on site or on public roads around the site will have their car towed or clamped with a release fee of 500 euro.

Never drink and drive. Always have a designated driver or preferably use public transport.

5. Tickets - Please do not purchase tickets from unofficial sources. Please note to camp at OXEGEN you need to have a Camping Ticket; this also allows entry into the Arena.

6. Drugs - Do not attempt to bring illegal drugs into the festival.  Searches will be carried out.

7. We’re committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all festival goers both on the campsite and in the arena.  We work very closely with many different crowd safety experts including Gardai, safety consultants, fire service, ambulance and paramedics and security organisations.

At OXEGEN 08, there were an overall total of 2,000 security personnel working rotation as to ensure security is present on a 24 hour basis. The following is a breakdown of staff numbers at the event. Similar numbers will be in place for OXEGEN 09.

There were also Watchtowers, Professional Fire Fighters, Civil Defence Fire Fighting Units and medics working rotation including First Aid, Accident and Emergency 24 hour Field Hospital, Doctors and A&E consultants, Welfare and Counselling working 24hrs on site, in the campsite, car parks, Park n Ride and at our 24hr on site Hospital.

There were also 200 information stewards throughout the festival site and a dedicated transport information office.

A large number of Gardai were on duty at Oxegen 08 over the total duration of the event working shift rotation and included two on site garda stations. (Source – Sgt. Tim Burke, Naas Gardai 30th June 2008)

8. Fans are encouraged to make use of the safety lockers on site for storing personal items and with a number of ATMs on site, we encourage all fans NOT to carry large sums of cash and to leave valuables at home. Beware of pilfering.

9. Trading - No unauthorized trading is permitted on or off site. Everything you need is available on site, from official merchandise to camping equipment, food to clothing.

10. Local Residents – OXEGEN would not be possible without the fantastic support of the local communities of Naas and Punchestown. Please show your consideration and appreciation to local residents by leaving the festival site in an orderly and quiet manner. Respect the property of local residents by not littering.

11. Fires - Lighting fires is dangerous and may be a criminal offence. Anyone encouraging in such activities will be ejected without refund.

Safety measures are taken to ensure everyone is safe and has fun so your co-operation is appreciated to make this the best festival yet.

The best way to get to OXEGEN is via one of the many bus services available.

Dublin Bus
Dublin Bus will operate a shuttle service from Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 direct to the festival site. Return bus transfer will cost 20 Euros. Tickets available from Dublin Bus, 59 Upper O’Connell Street, Dublin 1, by calling Dublin Bus on (01) 873 4222, or at www.ticketmaster.ie

Bus Eireann
Bus Eireann will be running express services from destinations around the country – so no matter where you are you should be able to make your way to OXEGEN 09!

What if I am flying in?

As OXEGEN is a key festival on the international music calendar there will be many people flying to Ireland for the festival.

Upon arrival at Dublin airport you can either take Dublin Bus 747 or the Aircoach service to O’Connell Street where Parnell Square North is a short walk away to connect to the Dublin Bus Shuttle for Punchestown.

Is there a park and ride facility/drop off point?

There are two Park and Ride sites (North and South) for this year’s Oxegen:
PARK AND RIDE NORTH (GOFFS, OFF JUNCTION 8, N7)
PARK AND RIDE SOUTH (OFF JUNCTION 10, M7)

Please note that there are no drop off facilities at Punchestown for private cars so please use the Park and Ride facility where festival goers can use the free shuttle bus service.
