The Day on End festival will take place in numerous venues around the city over three days which will feature live music performances, film screenings, workshops and talks. It will culminate with a 24 hour improvised performance event.

So the news that it is moving to three days actually comes as a shock to us as we genuinely think the Saturday and Sunday love in was a perfect festival choice. However the fact it’s not a third day on a Friday and is actually going to be a Monday, a Bank Holiday Monday at that, we’re pretty alright with it.

So the details, well it’s in The Royal Hospital Kilmainham, where IMMA is located. It will take place on the June Bank holiday weekend of Saturday June 2nd, Sunday June 3rd and Monday June 4th.

As with last year it’s a non camping festival. It will have five stages including a newly added comedy tent which we think is a genius idea and there will be a glittering array of food, creative craft stalls and quirks and oddities as only Forbidden Fruits 2012 can provide.

Perhaps it’s something to do with the Mayan calendar, who knows, but like some other big name festivals (and they name Glastonbury as an example), they will take a hiatus for a year and return in 2013.

Cue the speculation if this year out is just a bit of space and time for contemplation on the event, which we think should go back to being a two day event, drop the prices below the competitors and re-embrace it’s rock roots, or if it will cease altogether and a new event appear. The good news however is that MCD clearly are planning on bringing the massive Dance/RnB/Pop/Rock acts to Ireland in 2012 despite the missing Oxegen and have applied for up to six dates at Phoenix park.

The first of those Phoenix Park gigs is of course The Stone Roses who headline T in the Park that same weekend. Tickets for that are on sale now so pop on over to Ticketmaster.ie and pick yours up.

Certainly the feeling now is that the regular campers at Oxegen may switch allegiance and move to Stradbally for Electric Picnic. If that’s the case then this year might prove difficult to get tickets and the camping may not be as family friendly as normal.

As always it will take place on the grounds of Charlesville Castle, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. This year the festival will run from Friday 3rd August to Sunday 5th August.

Tickets for the event are currently on early bird to help you avoid full price. Non camping costs €64 and if you fancy camping then tickets only cost another €10 at €74 per ticket.
