Glastonbury 2008 begins next week, and with over 1000 acts performing during the festival, we have highlighted our 5 favorite Irish acts playing at this years festival…

The Flaws - Leftfield - Saturday 1.15pm

One of the most impressive Irish bands to emerge in the last few years. From their first EP released in 2005 up to from their Choice Music Prize and Meteor Award nominated 2007 album ‘Achieving Vagueness’, The Flaws have gone from strength to strength, and with festival appearances including Electric Picnic and Castlepalooza, Support slots for the likes of The Editors and The Fratellis and a performance on ‘Other Voices’, the Monaghan natives have earned the reputation as one of Irelands top bands. Definitely one not to miss.

Warlords of Pez - Shangri-La - Friday, Saturday and Sunday

The Warlords of Pez our the Glastonbury Veterans of this Top 5, Having been invited by Lost Vagueness before, The Warlords make a very welcome appearance in this years Shangri-La field. Any body who has seen the pez will contest you don’t know what you are in for, be it the Sunday Mass at Electric Picnic last year or singing in a Monsters Voice at Leeds or Reading, This group of Cybernetically Advanced Sonically Aggressive Space Pricks will give you a performance not to be forgotten.

Fight like Apes - Late N Live - Friday, BBC Introducing Stage - Saturday

Fight Like Apes have taken the nation by storm, and they are earning a reputation further afield as one of the brightest new bands around. Release of ‘Lend me your face’ and some outstanding live performances quickly made FLA the hottest act on the Dublin music scene in a very short time. The release of their second EP ‘David Carradine is a Bounty Hunter Whose Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch’ and the release of ‘Jake Summers’ in the UK just brought even more success. Support Slots with the likes of The Von Bondies and We Are Scientists and an album in the works, coupled with a Meteor Nomination, festival dates and a new single release, how could you resist sneaking a peek during Glastonbury?

Ham Sandwich - BBC Introducing Stage - Saturday

Kells natives Ham Sandwich will be rocking out the Radio 1 stage on Saturday. Fresh from winning the Hope for 2008 at the Meteor Awards and with the release of their debut album in February this year, Ham Sandwich are enjoying a superb 2008. An excellent live act, they will be hoping to impress at this year’s festival and with their album being released in the UK, we hope that the audience will be as impressed as we are.

Jape - The Park Stage - Saturday, Dance Village East Stage - Sunday

What a difference a year makes, Richie Egan’s side project has taken on a life of its own from the success of ‘Floating’, a song from Jape’s ‘Jape is Grape’ EP that has become a stable of The Raconteurs setlist after Brenden Benson heard the song in an Irish bar, and has become an ever present in Soulwax’s Too Many DJs set. Jape is playing twice at Glastonbury and will no doubt feature material from his latest album ‘Ritual’.
